From a press release:
“On December 10, local fitness company Urban Athletic Club will unveil a new studio concept for athletes, fitness junkies, and exercise enthusiasts that focuses on exercise recovery, optimizing mobility, treating pain and injuries, and other methods to improve fitness and athletic performance.
Located in Dupont Circle, RESET: Active Recovery Studio consists of 1800 square feet of training space, featuring a bright open studio for unencumbered movement, a private room for one-on-one training, a separate open area for individual use, and a tranquil mediation room for mid-day breaks.
Urban Athletic Club founder Graham King drew inspiration for this concept from his 17 years of training and from MobilityWOD, Ido Portal’s Movement Culture, Gold Medal Bodies, and Animal Flow, among others.
“Washingtonians are Type A. They’re competing in CrossFit and ToughMudders, they’re training at SoulCycle and Urban Athletic Club —all intense activities—so we need to take care of our bodies in order to be able to perform better,” King says. “And for the fitness newbie who doesn’t know where to begin, we’ll teach them how to use their own body.”
King has long preached the benefit of mobility, recovery, and dynamic movement principles to help improve performance throughout his time as a trainer at Washington Sports Club, as the founder of Balance Gym, and as a CrossFit coach. He saw the need for this “reseting” concept after years of training a wide variety of clients, from youth athletes recovering from ACL tears, to world-traveling USTR representatives, to high-rolling local developers.
RESET will offer class styles such as dynamic movement patterns, voodoo flossing and foam rolling, active isolated stretching by Stretch Science, restorative yoga, and Qi gong. Friday nights bring a “Yoga Party”, where local yogi and entrepreneur Debriana Berlin combines yoga with a live DJ for exactly what the name suggests.
Along with classes, RESET will offer drop-ins where athletes can use TriggerPoint Foam Rollers, VooDoo Floss, and Stretch Bands, or just relax in the meditation room for a mid-day mind break. Weekend offerings include seminars and workshops.
The RESET launch party is scheduled for December 10 from 4-6 p.m at 1742 Connecticut Ave, NW. The nearest metro is Dupont Circle (north exit).
Urban Athletic Club currently operates studios in Georgetown and Glover Park. A Shaw location is currently under construction and is slated to open Winter 2017. UAC’s signature Urban Athlete training program incorporates sports conditioning, bodyweight and strength training.”
